Lotta H Löthgren is a knitwear designer, writer and fibre artist based in the southern Swedish forest.

With both feet planted firmly in the ground of Småland, my aim is to bring a sense of this very place out into the rest of the world. After growing up in a city, moving away altogether, and finally returning to the fields and forests of my home area, I find myself in an ongoing dialogue with the trees and birds, the changing seasons and the wild animals I share this place with.

My first book Observations: Knits and Essays from the Forest was published by Laine Publishing in August, 2023. It holds a collection of nine timeless and wearable knitwear patterns, as well as my photography and writing. You can find the book in my yarn shop Elk market yarn, or at any of Laine’s many stockists around the world.

I have also designed patterns for publications and yarn brands such as Laine, Pom Pom quarterly and The Fibre Co. You find my full catalogue of knitwear patterns on Ravelry.

Alongside knitting and designing patterns, I hand dye yarn. After having explored plant dyeing and how it connects to my place in the world for a few years I am now using acid dyes to create a wider range of colours that are repeatable in a way that is hard to achieve with natural dyes. My hand dyed yarns are called Sägen – a Swedish word for a certain kind of folk story, one that is age old and tied to a specific place (but also retold in different versions in different places), and that often holds dark forces, smoke and mirrors, desire and delusion.

I also run a yarn shop with a selection of hand picked, high quality yarns in natural materials. I ship world wide and you are most welcome to the web shop at Elk market yarn, or the brick and mortar shop located in Ingelstad, in the south-eastern part of Sweden.
